Should I even keep blogging???

I've decided that I suck at blogging.  I'm sorry readers, but since college I haven't had to write much and my skills have deteriorated.  I thought blogging would help, but it did not. I thought I would enjoy making tutorials and sharing new information that I learned in school and at work.  Tutorial writing is a pain in the ass!  Those of you who do it know how tedious it is and I think you are AMAZING for creating them.    I'm also just not motivated to write anymore.  I do like tracking my projects, but it is very hard when I wait so long to post.

I think I'm going to keep the blog going for a while longer.  Any thoughts or suggestions?

Just because...

  1. Hi Rebecca - this is one of your new followers, Jenny. I'm over at jennysews2.blogspot.com.
I just wanted to say I suck at blogging too! But I enjoy the sewing community which is why I blog. My only suggestion (since you ask, of course) is to do it only if you want to. I personally enjoy reading reviews of the patterns they make, even if they don't blog very often - to me, it's ok. I hope you'll be a around a while longer :)

    1. You have reminded me that I started because I love this community. Thanks Jenny! I've linked to your blog above :)

  2. Set yourself a little goal date, say midyear, to see how you feel then about blogging! It is an enormous amount of energy to upkeep a blog, but I do think it would be a shame to let it slide away altogether. I often have a few months 'off', due to work commitments, and life commitments. After having a peek through your blog you have some great reviews and an honest writing style - 185 followers would miss you ... J

  3. Another infrequent blogger here ... eh, I say do it when the spirit moves you. There are so many folks out there who are using their blog to "build their brand" and whatnot, but that's not the only reason to blog. Nor are there any official rules about how often blogs must be updated, so no need to feel guilty. If that's once a year, so be it! Those who only enjoy frequently-updated blogs can remove yours (and mine!) from their newsreader ... their loss.

    1. I think I need to blog right after I make something. Waiting makes me less excited about blogging and then I forget.

      Thanks for the encouragement. :)

  4. If it doesn't make you happy or is making you feel stressed, no matter how much we would miss you and your posts, don't force yourself to do it. That said, if you are still wanting to do it and just feel the lack of motivation or something, you can always set yourself some goals. And don't think you always have to do an in-depth tutorial. It's your blog. It doesn't have to be what it started as or anything in particular at all, just you, and only if you want it to. :) If you decide to keep going, we'll all be here waiting. If not, don't fret; we'll understand. :)

  5. Sometimes a break from blogging revives you. And remember that this is your blog, to record your projects. You can share them, or not. If blogging becomes an obligation to your readers, it takes on the form of work and isn't pleasurable.

  6. Writing tutorials is a tedious mindsuck. I cannot disagree. But I do like your blog, no matter how frequently or infrequently you update it so I say carry on and see how it goes.

    1. Writing tutorials sucks, right? Thanks for following despite my lack of projects and tutorials. :)
